Mexico Travel Tips
First things first, you’ll want to plan your Mexico travel experience right. As in choosing the region that matches your travel style, heeding local travel tips so you know what to expect, and now what to do so you don’t stand out as an ugly American.
Read these tips for everything from slang to shopping and when to travel:
Mexico Food & Drink
Call us biased but we feel the food and drink culture is among the best in the world. There are traditions dating back to Aztec times, ingredients only found in Mexico, and recipes as comforting as they are complex.
Add to it that every region of Mexico brings its distinct flavors and recipes to the table and you can see why one could spend a lifetime diving into the Mexican culinary landscape.
And that’s to say nothing of the various agave spirits from bacanora and sotol to tequila and mezcal!
Mexico Travel To Baja California
As Californians, Baja California is pretty much the most visited part of Mexico since you can cross the border and be there. The state of Baja California – called Baja California Alta by some so as not to confuse it with Baja California Sur (below) – was once only known to Americans for its party scene in Tijuana or its surfing near Rosarito.
But, thanks to a creative wave, our guests head to Tijuana for creative food, chic boutiques, and art and to Ensenada for some of the best seafood anywhere. But the main attraction is Mexico’s premiere wine region, the Valle de Guadalupe.
Mexico Travel To Los Cabos
Baja California Sur is best-known as being home to Los Cabos but this state on the southern half of the Baja California peninsula has more to offer than just that.
You can swim with whale sharks off the coast of La Paz, surf the quiet beaches of the East Cape, explore art and farm-to-table food in San Jose del Cabo, or get a mix of nature, ocean, and small town vibes in Todos Santos.
And, of course, for a resort where you simply unplug while enjoying spa service, pool time, and creative food, there’s always Los Cabos.
Mexico City Travel
As the capital city, Mexico City is the pulsing center of Mexican culture. It’s not just the home to the Mexican government but also where you’ll find markets the size of small towns, Aztec ruins dating back millennia, street food so legendary that its recognized by UNESCO, fine dining that sets the bar, a nightlife scene that’s always buzzing, and a neighborhood for pretty much every type of traveler.
Oaxaca Mexico Travel
Yes, Oaxaca is worthy of all the hype! It is a place all its own thanks to a rich indigenous culture and a layered history. This region is also home to mole, mezcal, and memelas, making it a culinary destination in its own right.
You can explore the verdant Sierra in the north, surf the world-class waves at the beaches, or get to know the Zapotec and Mixtec cultures when exploring the Valles Centrales.
But Oaxaca City itself is the epicenter of it all and it is most vibrant during the dance festival known as Guelaguetza, the Day Of The Dead holiday, and the Noche de Rábanos festival in late December.
