Where To Stay In Calistoga According To An Expert

You might get lost when deciding where to stay in Calistoga. That’s almost too good a thing because it’s a small town with many lodging options, from upscale inns to luxury resorts. Having lived in the Bay Area and made countless trips to Napa wine country, I have thoughts.

With its charming small-town feel, natural hot springs, and slower pace than downtown Napa, Calistoga is one of my favorite California wine country escapes. This town is at the top of Napa Valley but just minutes from the restaurants, wineries, and other attractions in the heart of wine country.

Where To Stay In Calistoga

As the founder of Salt & Wind Travel and a Californian, I’ve spent years exploring this premier California wine region and crafting custom itineraries for our California travel clients. That means I have firsthand experience staying at these hotels and feedback from my clients about where to stay in Calistoga.

Over the past year, I’ve been researching where to stay in Calistoga, having stayed at Dr. Wilkinson’s, Calistoga Motor Lodge, and the Solage. In this roundup, I highlight seven of the best hotels that offer something for every type of traveler, including the charming Brannan Cottage Inn, retro spots like Indian Springs, and luxury properties like the Four Seasons.

Where To Stay In Calistoga: 7 Options From Luxury Hotel To B&B

If you’ve read our roundup of things to do in Calistoga, you know the question is not if you should visit but where you should spend the night.

Here are the seven hotels we recommend for where to stay in Calistoga. We’re sharing what we like about each property and any need-to-know details like small rooms or dated decor. As a full-service travel agency, we can book these hotels for you, some with perks! Just get in touch, and we’ll find the perfect place for you.

Brannan Cottage Interior

Brannan Cottage Inn (3-star hotel)

Starting at: $225 per night
Location: On the east edge of Calistoga town
What We Love: This is technically a 3-star hotel, but that’s not doing it justice. This charming, historic inn perfectly balances landmark architecture and modern vibes. The cozy, intimate atmosphere features beautifully restored cottages and a garden, making it a top pick for where to stay in Calistoga.

Their on-site cafe, Sam’s General Store, is one of my favorite places in town for a quick coffee (and you can get picnic provisions there, too, FYI). It’s also a short walk to the leading shops and restaurants. In our experience, this hotel is best for solo travelers or couples who want to be able to walk into town.
What You Need To Know: They only have a few rooms, so you’ll want to book in advance (or see if there is availability at their sister property, the Brannan Lofts).
Brannan Cottage Inn, 109 Wappo Ave, Calistoga, CA 94515

Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa (4-star hotel)

Starting at: $200 per night
Location: On the east edge of Calistoga town
What We Love: Located right on Lincoln Avenue, the Calistoga Motor Lodge offers a retro-chic vibe reminiscent of classic American road trips. The hotel features 50 rooms, ranging from cozy camper rooms to spacious suites.

Amenities include a spa, hot tub, outdoor mineral pools, and complimentary bike rentals. The hotel is best for those who want easy access to the Silverado Trail (to see other towns and wine tasting), but do not want to stay too far from town.
Need To Know: The three different room types—the camper rooms, deluxe rooms, and soon-to-open villas—are very different. The camper rooms are ADA and pet friendly, but they’re dated, while the deluxe rooms are recently remodeled.

Calistoga Motor Lodge, 1880 Lincoln Ave, Calistoga, CA 94515

Dr. Wilkinson’s Hot Springs Resort (4-star hotel)

Starting at: $200 per night
Location: In the town center of Calistoga, within walking distance of local shops and restaurants
What We Love: Known for its classic Calistoga mud baths and spa services, this relaxed, retro-style resort has been around since 1952. The property is also a member of Design Hotels, so you know it has a distinct vibe. The service is on point without being stuffy, and it offers an authentic spa experience with a laid-back vibe, ideal for a wellness getaway.

It’s a great place to stay if you want to be steps from the town’s main shops and restaurants, like Cal Mart, the Calistoga Depot, and restaurants like Lovina. Also, grab a bite at the on-site restaurant, House of Better, which serves things as varied as pineapple mimosas, nachos, and New Mexican enchiladas! Our couples clients like staying here since it’s central and has great spa services.
Need To Know: While it’s ideal for spa lovers, the retro decor and casual atmosphere may not appeal to those looking for modern luxury.

Four Seasons Resort Napa Valley (5-star hotel)

Starting at: $800 per night
Location: Set within a private vineyard along Silverado Trail, just east of Calistoga
What We Love: The Four Seasons brand needs no introduction, and this modern, luxurious property holds up to the reputation. The sprawling resort has 85 spacious rooms and suites with vineyard views, contemporary décor, and private terraces.

It offers impeccable service, a full-service spa, wine tastings, and an idyllic setting with views of vineyards and mountains. Unique for its on-site winery, full-service spa, multiple dining options, and kids’ club, it’s a good choice for families and couples alike.
Need To Know: The slightly remote location means a short drive to downtown, but the tranquility and exclusivity offered by the resort are unmatched.

Perks We Can Get For You:

  • Daily breakfast for 2
  • 100USD hotel credit for rooms or 200USD for suites & private retreats
  • Room upgrade to next category (subject to availability)
  • Early check-in, late check-out (subject to availability)

Four Seasons Resort Napa Valley, 400 Silverado Trail N, Calistoga, CA 94515

Indian Springs Calistoga (4-star hotel)

Starting at: $400 per night
Location: In a beautiful setting, on the east edge of Calistoga town
What We Love: A historic resort featuring a sizeable geothermal pool, luxurious spa services, and a serene garden, all set against a stunning mountain backdrop. The resort also has private cottages for a more intimate stay.

This hotel evokes Palm Springs with its outdoor pool and midcentury vibes. In our experience, it’s an excellent option for groups of friends who plan to do most things together but still want free time for spa treatments and relaxation.
Need To Know: Its peaceful location may feel a bit removed from the town center, requiring a short drive for dining and shopping.

Indian Springs Calistoga, 1712 Lincoln Ave, Calistoga, CA 94515

Solage, an Auberge Resort (5-star hotel)

Starting at: $600 per night
Location: Along Silverado Trail, just east of Calistoga
What We Love: If the “quiet luxury” fashion trend were a hotel, it would be the Solage. Everything from the landscaping to the number of staff and the extensive wellness offerings feels luxurious.

The property includes a world-class spa and natural geothermal mineral water pools. Don’t sleep on the renowned Solbar restaurant, which has received a Michelin star. While families certainly stay here, we think it’s a better option for groups of adult friends or couples.
Need To Know: Though it’s slightly pricier and a bit of a walk from downtown, the exquisite service and top-notch amenities justify the cost.

Perks We Can Get For You:

  • Includes Breakfast For 2
  • 100USD Resort Credit per room
  • Complimentary WiFi
  • Welcome Amenity
  • Late Check-out, Early Check-in (subject to availability)
  • Upgrade (subject to availability on arrival)

Solage, 755 Silverado Trail N, Calistoga, CA 94515

The Francis House (Luxury Hotel)

Starting at: $275 per night
Location: In the heart of historic Calistoga, near the town’s shops, wine tasting rooms, and restaurants
What We Love: The Francis House is a historic 4-star boutique hotel in a beautifully restored 1886 mansion on Myrtle Street. This intimate, impeccable hotel reminds me of the hotels that defined luxury in Napa Valley before all the major hotel chains developed properties there. It has only five guest rooms, each uniquely decorated and blending vintage charm and modern luxury. Amenities include a heated pool, a sauna, and one of the best breakfasts in the area.

It’s in a prime location, the closest hotel to downtown Calistoga on our list (just a block off the main street), yet it is in a residential area near a park. Hence, it’s still quiet and relaxing—our clients heading on a romantic getaway really like the vibes of this property.
Need To Know: The inn’s small size means fewer amenities and a more intimate experience, which may not be ideal for guests seeking larger resort-style amenities.
