Off Menu: Barcelona Episode

Barcelona is a powerhouse when it comes to its culinary scene. From the Adrià brothers contribution to avant garde cooking to super classic tapas, there's a bit of everything. And there's a respect for alcohol—be it beer, wine, sherry, or vermouth—that goes along with it.

I hadn't been there in years (I keep heading to San Sebastián!) so I was excited to head there for the latest episode of #OffMenu. While there, I met up with food expert Lucy Garcia (friends with Anthony Bourdain, nbd) who showed me some her favorite places. 

We started things off with the classic Spanish combo of churros and hot chocolate at celebrity pastry chef Oriol Balaguer's Xocolateria in El Borne neighborhod. We then headed to the Montjuïc area for a meal at PaloCortao that was a modern take on tapas with plenty of high-quality sherry.

But my favorite stop was for vermouth and bocadillos (Spanish sandwiches) at the charming Entrepanes Diaz bar. Their sandwiches were so good it was hard to choose a favorite but I recreated the {Bocadillo Antxón} Chorizo Shoestring Fries Bocadillo Sandwich because it's everything I love about Spain—bold, perfect for late night, and spicy—all in one sandwich.
