February sees me going to Whistler, British Columbia for the first time. It’s crazy that I’ve been to British Columbia four different times and have neither been to Vancouver nor Whistler. This particular trip is special because one, it’s my birthday, but also because Whistler really represents the epitome of the North America winter sports destination since the winter Olympics were just there a few years ago.
I just learned to snowboard last winter and will be traveling with my snowboard for the first time. But, I am particularly excited about doing some things I’ve never done, like bobsledding, as well as “champagne sabering” at Barefoot Bistro. When in Whistler….
The Blue Ridge Mountains are that perfect combination of beauty, relaxation and nature. I host women’s Adventure Getaways around the country that empower women to step outside their comfort zone, experience life more viscerally, and be a little more fearless. And, in just a few months, I’m hosting one in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Meadows of Dan, Virginia and I am counting the days until I head there.
What I love about this location is that we can get the wind in our hair while riding ATV’s to high peaks with gorgeous panoramic views, then stand in beautiful meditative streams and fly fish, then at the end of the day stargaze and drink wine in front of a fire in a luxurious cabin. It has all of the elements of rugged and refined that I look for in a trip.
One of these days, I'll return to India to see more of that beautiful country. My first — and only visit — was to Rajasthan, with all its brilliance, but it was far too brief. If I could, I'd go back and tour the south. The chaotic markets, the elaborate Hindu temples, the stunning Goan beaches, the rich history, and all the flavors—these are the things that have me looking forward to a time when I can start planning a trip.
South Indian food has long been a favorite, but nothing can ever really compare to a meal at the source. I'd look forward to a breakfast of uttapam and dosas with spicy sambar and coconut chutneys. And to finish, a glass of hot milk chai with sugar.
