Just south of Downtown Dallas, Bishop Arts District was the site of Dallas's busiest trolley stop in the 1930's and is now home to nearly 60 independently owned boutiques, cafes, galleries, and restaurants. Although it's only a couple blocks in each direction, it's jam packed and crazy photogenic.
I grew up going to Taiwan, where both my parents are from, almost every summer until I was off to college. Recently, I returned to my mother (and father) land for a quick tour around the country and here are 13 things the teenager in me never expected to experience.
Charming, quaint, delightful: these are the words that come to mind when you find yourself describing the historic, little city of Charleston, South Carolina. We already love Charleston, whether just for 24 hours, a girls' getaway, or a weekend away, but here are 7 ways we fell in love with the city even more on our latest trip.
Healdsburg isn't jokingly known to insiders as "Beverly Healdsburg" for nothing. Equal parts rustic and chic, the town of has risen quickly, despite the looming shadow of Napa. But like most-younger children, Healdsburg is scrappier and savvier; with less to prove and more to gain. Brimming with fabulous restaurants, biodynamic vineyards, and a town square like Mayberry; it’s not hard to find the appeal.
Can we all agree on something? We travel for food first and foremost. Sure, the sites, resorts, beaches, and people are just as amazing but, if you’re like me, you travel to taste a place. I mean, that’s why you’re here on Salt & Wind, right? Because, like us, you’re always in search of the best meal a place has to offer and how to recreate it back home.
Ever since I'd visit my sister there during college, I've loved DC but the food scene wasn't much more than steak houses and wood-paneled bars until a few years ago. And in that time the local food culture has exploded, which is why it was no question that we'd go there for #OffMenu.
That’s so “Brooklyn.” The world’s favorite borough has officially become an adjective, applied to everything from edgy fashion to flexible work schedules to hand crafted design. Yet beyond the omnipresent stereotype of Williamsburg’s “hipsters,” an entire borough of hidden charms awaits over in Carroll Gardens.
Zurich totally surprised me (in a great way) when it came to food. Obviously, I expected lots of cheeses, chocolate, and wine but I didn’t really think much beyond that. After almost a week in this gorgeous city by the lake, I had no problem determining my favorite foods. These are foods you have to try when you visit Zurich.
This week Salt & Wind is heading west to Hawaii with some of our favorite fellow travelers. We’re well aware that might only cause vacation envy for a few of you. To help alleviate that, we’re recreating the trip in the form of a giveaway that includes a few nights at some of our favorite hotels as well as products from some amazing local Oahu producers.
If there is one city from the #OffMenu series that I wish adopted me, it'd be Nashville. The lovely Beth Sachan showed me around her hometown and I forgot just how much I adore that city. The people, the vibrancy, the music, and, of course, the food!
This week on #OffMenuwe head to Chicago in search of all that's happening now in the Windy City. Local food lover, Andrew Kaplan, showed us around his favorite neighborhoods — from Logan Circle to Bucktown and Pilsen — and helped us uncover some seriously drool-worthy food.
This week on #OffMenuwe headed to Honolulu, Hawaii. As you've probably noticed, I've got big love for Hawaii as I spend a few weeks in the islands every year. By far, I've spent most of my time on Oahu and I'm always on a mission to spread the word about the island's incredible food scene. So, I was psyched when I found out we'd be heading there for this episode!
