Herbed Chicken Salad with Mango-Mustard Dressing

The other day I got sucker punched by flavor. Yup, right square in the kisser. And, as a result, I'd like this time to make a little PSA so you can do your best to avoid this happening to you or a loved one. Allow me to give you some background, yes? After a four hour flight delay and a really lo...

Ginger Mint Green Iced Tea

You may have noticed that I’m not that big of a tea person — I’m partial to coffee at any and all times. But spending a lot of time in Hawaii over the last few years has changed that. And hot coffee and the humidity of Hawaii don’t work that well for me, so I've made all sorts of iced teas, with my favorite being this slightly sweet ginger mint green iced tea. But now, even when I'm home, we’ve taken to sipping on this iced tea because it’s comforting, easy to make, and, don’t tell the coffee pot, but a nice change of pace from cup after cup of coffee.

Black Bean and Sweet Potato Chili

I've spent the last few weeks in Santa Rosa up in Northern California filming a project I'll tell you about soon but the crazy thing it has been bizarrely frigid in NorCal (hello, low 30s and frost in the AM!). And, while I want to keep up my New Year's resolutions of healthy eating, I need something of substance like this chili.

Charred Broccolini Feta and Pistachio Salad

It turns out we sometimes have cooking amnesia – like, we know we really like broccolini but forget. Then we'll have some of it charred and perfectly cooked and then it's on. We'll toss charred broccolini in pasta with browned sausage, have it as a side with some garlicky toasted breadcrumbs, or put it in this salad or some variation, say, with toasted quinoa one day, slices of avocado the next, or just as is.

Avocado Green Curry Noodles with Toasted Coconut and Cashews

Last night's Golden Globes means that awards season has officially started here in Hollywood. Everywhere I turn, everyone seems to be getting ready: bronzed, botoxed, shellacked, and juiced to look their best.

Though it's hard not to get wrapped up in it all, I'm first and foremost a food lover s...

Thai Lemongrass Chili Mussels

There are a few recipes out there that are pure deception: they seem difficult to the unknowing when they really couldn’t be easier. Those are the reliably quick recipes we share when people ask what to make for date night, for a dinner party, or any other time the nerves may get the best of kitchen confidence. One such treasure of a quick, easy recipe is mussels: they’re elegant and impressive but can be on the table in just a few minutes.

Grape and Fennel Arugula Salad with Savory Granola

Granola in our salad is a total obsession over here at Salt and Wind and never more than this time of year. That's to say when we're all doing our best to resolve to eat and excercise better and more, we're all about salads. But that plan can get boring in a minute without, well, some sort of pla...

Spicy Harissa Shakshuka

We need to talk shakshuka — now, more than ever, it’s having a moment. I was first introduced to it by my Tunisian neighbors when I lived in Paris and have made some variation on it since. Like so many dishes in the region, these are dishes that come from everywhere yet nowhere at once and this one is no exception. But, no matter where it originally comes from, what I can tell you is it’s delicious.

Black Bean, Toasted Quinoa, and Feta Cheese Tacos

I've had my car since I was 16, so there are some awesome artifacts that pop up every once in a while. Things I've found most recently include: a Hello Kitty mechanical pencil, a 90s-era scrunchie, that Bob Marley album I had on repeat in high school, lots of change, an old Tortilla chip that I s...

Kale, Chicken, and Quinoa Salad with Mint-Yogurt Dressing

My body talks to me – not in that, “I see dead people” way but in a “oh, if I listen, I can learn” sort of way. And I’m starting to listen. Lately, it’s been talking about healthy food. Perhaps because the more time I’m on the road, the less often I eat homemade meals (or meals, period), but, no ...

Chilled Soba Noodles with Lemon-Ginger Dressing

Chilled soba noodle salads are so satisfying yet light that I turn to them often. This recipe is really a launch pad because it’s the basis from which we make all sorts of soba variations. If you don’t have wasabi on hand, we leave it out and just adjust the other flavors accordingly. If there’s a ton of watercress, it gets swirled in with the noodles. And during the winter months, we’ll throw roasted diced squash with some tofu; so, rifle through your pantry and make this your own — no matter what it’ll be pretty easy and plenty tasty.
