We can’t start our day without it, and you shouldn’t have to either. From Tokyo to Los Angeles, we love our coffee shop design almost as much as we love their artisanal brews. No doubt about it, the third-wave coffee movement has us all enamored (um, hello, @coffeeshopcorners!) — from local, boutique roasters, to the fashion-statement that is “a coffee cup”, we’re compiling the best that LA has to offer.
This week Salt & Wind is heading west to Hawaii with some of our favorite fellow travelers. We’re well aware that might only cause vacation envy for a few of you. To help alleviate that, we’re recreating the trip in the form of a giveaway that includes a few nights at some of our favorite hotels as well as products from some amazing local Oahu producers.
We've got some serious to dos on the agenda before summer ends. As in lots and lots of beach time, outdoor concerts, watermelon everything, and grilled everything else. One of our favorite things to grill this time of year is avocados — they take a sec but add a slight char to everything they top, like this Salad with Green Goddess Dressing that we shared today over on LaurenConrad.
Locals will tell you “I visited other places, but always come back to Boise” and with good reason — we've got a lot of hidden gems (this is the Gem State, after all). True, Boise may not be the biggest city around, but biggest doesn’t always mean best, ya know? Here are 5 reasons to put Boise on your radar.
It's a long weekend and we can't wait to celebrate. If you're like us, you like to make things memorable so every last detail is planned. But that doesn't mean we're willing to spend hours prepping (it's too hot, and summer is supposed to be laidback), so we plan on easy drinks that have a little extra flair.
Pack you bag because it's all systems go! It's the start of summer vacation so traveling pretty much any and everywhere is fair game. It can be tough narrowing down where to travel so we turned to a few of our friends for advice. This June we have Alana Kysar of Fix Feast Flair heading to New York City, Brian Samuels of A Thought For Food set on Chicago, and Lloyd & Yaya from Hand Luggage Only pining for Peru and Patagonia.
We're totally smitten with toast — top it with cinnamon sugar, pear compote, or avo, and we're there. But as of late we've been very much partial to this toast. Inspired by the toast we had over the weekend at the SHED Cafe in Healdsburg, we made our own version and we're sharing it with our friends over on LaurenConrad.
Here it is, friends: the unofficial first weekend of summer. And while lots of people are hitting the road, I’m more than alright to stay right here. When you live in a coastal city like Los Angeles, everyone heads to the beach and that’s exactly what I’ll be up to. We’re staycation-ing in Malibu and all we have on the agenda is long hikes, late mornings, oh and endless brunches that will most definitely involve these Tomatillo Bloody Mary Cocktails.
If there's a month when it's a good time to visit prettymuch anywhere, it's May. The desert isn't too hot, Europe has started to thaw, and Japan still has some of its cherry blossoms, which explains why this month's contributors have got their bags packed and tickets booked.
We know we’re supposed to be equal-opportunity travelers and all, but we’re totally partial to April. The snow starts thawing, the flowers blooming, and with it? The ability to travel near and far before the big holidays really starts.
This month we're looking forward to making the most of the last days of winter while embracing the start of Spring and our fellow food-travel friends are doing the same with travels taking them from a St Pat's celebration in Chicago to the cliffs of Amalfi and the beaches of Hawaii.
If you ask us, the Aussies are owning it right now. True, it's summer there, which means it's easy to get green with envy as we stare down snow banks and they kick it beachside. But, we're crushing on them and it's about way more than their weather.
